As we found out in my cluttered post I’m pretty OTT on the organisation in my life. I live to be organised and in control of everything at all times so that I never forget a thing or an event! I have my tips down to 5 simple steps that can help you to start being more organised, stay organised or even just a lil more on top of your week and tasks!
5 Steps to stay organised
write down your week ahead of time, I personally take an hour every single Sunday to write down anything I MUST do that week alongside what I want to vaguely accomplish each day. Take a Monday for example, no lectures, so instead I’ll have written down write 3 blog posts, read up more about SEO and DA, go to the gym and possibly an ambassador job. As the week goes on I tipex out any cancelled plans and write in any new ones as they arise. This is my absolute top tip on how I stay organised. Without my amazing week by week planner from Tiger I would be all over the place!! (I couldn’t find on their site the exact calendar however they defo still have them in stores!)
Alongside keeping track of my week on my weekly planner I also keep a notebook full of lists for each day, I write down all I want to accomplish on top of what my planner says. By writing a detailed list in my notebook I am able to highlight them as I finish each task and remember each and every thing I want to do! So instead of having “write 3 blog posts” I will have listed what I want to include, how long I’ll spend on it and probably when I’ll do it. I also love to just list to stay organised for food shopping, emails, assignments and basic ideas. I’m so very over the top with writing things down but it’s the only way I feel clear tbh!
Don’t put off what you can do today or right now till later! All of those little chores and tasks will eventually just build up higher and higher and higher until you’re stressed! I try SO HARD to do everything I need to do like reply to an email or complete an audit, take out the bin, wash the car etc as soon as it comes up. I feel so much better knowing that its one less thing to think and remember about on top of university, blog posts and keeping on top of my social media!
Simple organisational step number 4, set reasonable goals so that you are on top of your targets. I personally set myself smart targets, if you don’t know what they are you can find out here! Theres no point what so ever in setting yourself huge targets that you feel are just hanging over you so each week or month or year. My weekly smart targets tend to be things such as, see a friend on Monday morning, catch up with mam on Wednesday for an hour, go for a walk on Sunday! instead of things like save up for a holiday or drive cross-country! This way your targets are being met on a regular basis, I do also have long-term targets like saving money etc but I tend to set these monthly instead! Which follows right on to this point, you can set any length goal, just because my personal preference are small weekly goals doesn’t mean yours have to be. You may feel monthly goals are best for you and so what, do it!! Overall my advise here is to set reasonable or smart targets that motivate you!
Remember that time is precious and that you want to make the most of it. Time flies by us all and you don’t want to miss out on things just because you didn’t remember! Or even because you were up to your eyeballs in work because you had not managed your time effectively! Time is more precious than anything, you cannot get it back once its gone!
